STRATEGIC BUSINESS PLANNING

We follow a step by step tailor made plan of action which is pre agreed with the client and provides clear guidance and planning on corporate strategy evaluating the external environment in order to develop a module which can be applied to internal operations so as to enhance growth and competitiveness.

"If you don't know where your business is going, any road will get you there. Planning without action is futile, action without planning is fatal (Unknown)"

Why a Strategic Plan?

Business managers and owners are often so preoccupied with the day to day business operations and issues that they lose sight of their ultimate objectives. E.g Why they started the business in the first place. Sometimes growth comes so rapidly and they just go with the flow rather than planning for it. This often takes them in a different direction to their original ideas and can lead to business collapse or burn out.

That's why a business review or preparation of a strategic plan is a virtual necessity. This may not be a recipe for success, but without it a business is much more likely to fail. A good plan should:
  • Serve as a framework for decisions or for securing support/approval.
  • Provide a basis for more detailed operational planning.
  • Explain the business to others in order to inform, motivate & involve.
  • Assist benchmarking & performance monitoring.
  • Stimulate change and become building block for future plans.

A strategic plan (SP) should not be confused with a business plan (BP). The SP is likely to be a short summary document whereas a business plan is usually a much more substantial and detailed document. However as a strategic plan provides the foundation and frame work for a business plan it can sometime be combined into one document - a strategic business plan.

A strategic plan is also not the same thing as an operational plan. The SP should be visionary, conceptual and directional in contrast to an operational plan which is likely to be shorter term (usually a year or two), tactical, focused and measurable.

A satisfactory strategic plan must be realistic and attainable so as to allow managers and think strategically and act operationally.
